Here's proof that what you wear, will improve your performance

Many people think that making sure we dress well, and have a good image, is only for the benefit of others, and how we want to be perceived.  If you've done even the smallest amount of reading on this topic you'll know that how you present yourself does have a significant influence on others opinions of you.  However let's park that for now, because who wants to live their lives worried about what other people think all the time.  It's not about portraying some sort of false picture of yourself, because people pick up on that intuitively.  What's more important is the effect of how you dress has on you.  Your self-image is, arguably, even more important.  There are more than a few studies that back this up too.  Take for example the work of Professor Karen Pine, who has worked around the Fashion Psychology field for 30 years.  “When we put on an item of clothing on, it is common for the wearer to adopt the characteristics associated with that garment. A lot of clothing has symbolic meaning for us, whether it’s ‘professional work attire’ or ‘relaxing weekend wear’, so when we put it on we prime the brain to behave in ways consistent with that meaning.”

A study conducted by Hajo Adam and Adam Galinsky of Northwestern University, called Enclothed cognition,  http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022103112000200, details how people that were wearing a medical doctors white coat, performed better in a series of attention tests, sometimes up to 50% better.  A white painters coat was also used, which was identical, but did not produce the same improvements. This is a significant statistic!  Changing the way you present yourself will not only communicate to others, but it will also communicate to you, and will create a significant lift in your performance.  We've all heard the saying "Clothes make the man" ( or woman ),  and the science says that this is actually true.  So if you're going to spend lots of money on clothing, shouldn't it be the right clothing?  Ultimately, it's all about the feelings. It about how you feel when you're dressed and the confidence it brings.  If what you wear can have a significant impact on one area of your life, then image what it could do to other areas......
